Back to Basics starting with a Healthy Home

With a new school year in full swing, this is a good time for you to reevaluate your healthy and unhealthy behaviors when it comes to a clean home.

The cleaning products you are using could be dangerous to your family and with all the germs and sickness that goes around while your kids are at school, you really want to make sure your family is coming home to clean environment.

Did you know that the cleaner your home is, the unhealthier it may be?

The petroleum-based chemicals lurking in your household cleaning products can be very toxic and dangerous.

Fragrance products are almost always loaded with synthetic chemicals that have been linked to cancer, reproductive toxicity, allergies, and more.

So what is the best way to get our home clean and smelling nice if we are too avoid using scented cleaning products?

Look for products that are made by companies that are earth-friendly, animal-friendly, green, non-toxic, and/or 100% organic. This applies to everything from food and personal care products to building materials, carpeting, paint, baby items, upholstery, and more.

Vinegar is one of my favorite products to use in my home. I make my own all purpose cleaner using vinegar, a little liquid castile soap, essential oil (optional), and filtered water. Vinegar is also great as a fabric softener. Just add a small amount to your wash.

Here is a list of other natural ingredients you may have in your home that support a cleaner, healthier and non-toxic, environment.

  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Borax
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Liquid castile soap
  • Organic essential oils (optional)

Making your own natural cleaning products is a great way to get your kids involved in cleaning and can be a lot of fun too!
